Pre-Production

Hello readers,

In this edition, I prepare for the filming of my Advert e.g. Locations, Script, Storyboards and casting.

The Packet:

Script:

I had to come up with a basic script for the advert, and tried to make it as good as possible. Here's what I got:

Storyboard:

I started planning the production of the advert by making the storyboard, I did this on photoshop as it will ultimately look neater and a bit more professional:

In shot 1 our actor buys a standard, boring, lacklustre packet of crisps form the local shop, in shot 2 he walks out of the supermarket and exits frame. Shot 3 sees him sitting on a bench in a park, where he opens the packet of crisps, where we have a match-on-action shot to shot 4 where 'cannon head' flies out of the packet, and flies in front of the actor as shown in shot 5 and tells him his life could be better if he buys cannon bitez, in shot 6 we are shown why, he seems happier and his face seems to be enjoying the flavour of cannon bitez.

In shot 7 the actor asks what's so special that it's making him act like that and 'cannon head' explains why and gives him a packet of them in shot 8 (not final look) and the final shot we pan out to the actor holding a singular crisp in front of his face. transitioning back to black-and-white.

With the timings shown on the duration the combined length of the advert is 45-53 seconds long which should be enough time to get the point across of why you should buy Cannon Bitez.

Shooting-list:

The shooting order is pretty much a more detailed version of what I've explained in terms of sound and location.

Effect Plans:

For the cannonball coming out of the packet of boring crisps, I needed to create a visual of what it should look after editing:

Equipment/Budgeting:

Thing I will need to possibly borrow from the equipment store will be:
  • Camera
  • Tripod
  • Zoom Mic
I will also need to get a personalised crisp packet sorted out. i've found a site that sells blank crisp packets.

and for making the packet red:

I have paper in my own home to stick between the packet and tape for the final design.
Bus costs for the actor will be £1-£2, however they will be bringing their own money for that.
Overall the cost will be around £13.61-£15.61

Schedule:

Me and the actor agreed to meet on Saturday 26th of October.

Permission to film:

As I am unable to use the shop (see 'emails' for full conversation) I am only having to use the park location and as it is a public area there is no-one to give permission to me to film.

Location Recce + Risk Assessments:

With the risk assessment I decided to give them 3 points as a pair, if one was more important than the other it would give the higher priority 2-3 points depending on how much more of a danger it poses in the area.

Contingency Plan:

Story Board for editing:

To do this I used footage taken a few weeks ago I was using to improve my skills in after effects, as a sort of template for how it should sort of look.

For when i'm making the images black and white:

For when the actor sees the alternate version of himself:
I am happy with how this turned out as it would sort of make the actor stand-out in the alternate perspective/

Emails:

I wasn't sure about their email address but I found out they had a facebook page, and messaged them through that explaining what i was planning to do:

After two days I didn't get any response and I saw that they had read my previous message. I wondered if they had to go someone who would have the final say:
She sent me a message a few days later, so I tried to speed up the response process by making it seem urgent.
so this leads me to changing my ideas in terms of storyboard and script:

If I don't have the location I can't have the shots. I knew the owner through my parents as they're rather good friends, so I assumed they'd have no problem with it, which is why I decided to plan using them as a location

Location photos:

Casting:

My main actor will be Kane Harrison and the voice of Cannon Head will be played by me as it only makes sense as i'm the one trying to sell the product to the audience that I be the one to try and sell it to Kane's character.
